The River House is een 5 sterren hotel in het zuidwesten van Sri Lanka. Vijf prachtige koloniaal ingerichte kamers en grote tuin maken het een paradijs. Maar bovenal een geweldig team, van kok tot tuinman en van ober tot bootsman, iedereen onder leiding van de jonge manager Hashan is bezig het de gasten naar de zin te maken.
Prachtig in het groen gelegen aan de Madu ganga een ideale plek om te relaxen en ongestoord veel vogels te spotten. In ons acht daags verblijf heb ik 32 vogelsoorten gefotografeerd. Onder andere de badderende Honingzuigers, de verliefde Roodstuit buulbuuls, het moeilijk te spotten Roodkeel-baardvogeltje en de nieuwsgierige Brahmaanse wouw.
In de loop van de dag trekken er ook nog regelmatig diverse soorten apen door de toppen van de bomen. Ook varanen komen op z’n tijd naar de rivier.

THE RIVER HOUSE
The river house is a 5 star hotel in the South west of Sri lanka. They have five beautifully decorated rooms, all colonial style. Together with the big garden you are in paradise. But best of all, the staff make a great team. The cook or the gardener, the waiter or the boatman. Everybody led by the young manager Hashan, and they all try their best to make your stay the happiest.
The place lies in luscious green surroundings at the Madu ganga river, a fabulous place to relax and do some quiet birdwatching. While we stayed there for eight days, I photographed 32 bird species! Among many others I saw bathing Sunbirds, Red-vented bulbuls that were in love, a Ceylon small barbet (that is hard to find by the way), and a curious Brahminy kite.
During the day different kinds of monkeys will pass the treetops. Various lizards will come to the river.
